Centered around the beach town of Jacó, and more specifically, a hostel named Pura Beda, our not-so-squeaky-clean protagonists are living in Costa Rica illegally. Whether they are young Americans examining their privilege and life choices, retirees who thought life there would be “easier,” or a Nicaraguan looking for a new opportunity, this collection of short stories re-examines what it means to be “illegal” and, of course, human.
